THE TREES ARE MY FRIENDS

The trees are my friends.
They listen to me when others turn away,
Let me sit by them when I wish to stay,
Share in my solitude and help me to breathe,
Deliver the shelter and sanctuary I so dearly need.

The trees are my friends,
They cleanse my conscience and forgive me my sin,
Open my thoughts and welcome me in,
Signify greatness, loss and rebirth,
Their presence alone is a gift of this Earth.

The trees are my friends,
They stand worthy and bold,
I plant from a seed, they repay me tenfold.
They ask me no questions, but accept what I am,
Never bother to solicit what I can do for them.

They wield a great power I cannot explain,
Release me of burden and surmounted strain,
Propagate silence and institute peace,
Filter my karma giving cause to the breeze.

The trees are my friends,
They do me no harm,
They conjure up magic and open their arms.
Don’t force themselves on us, they are just merely there,
Take nothing but water and breath from the air.

They capture the good things and give them to me;
Sunlight, colour, texture and scent for free.
They offer a clarity and temporal belief,
Medicate minds with natural herbal relief.

The trees are my friends,
My heart and my soul,
They are the very life of this world.
A vision of glory, a grant from the sun,
I worship these pillars of wisdom, each one.

Their richness and virtue, so full and complete,
Make no lies or excuses and don’t have to compete,
They bestow on us blessing, ask nought in return,
From their great benefaction we all can learn.

The trees are my friends,
They are honest and true,
A changing of season, a chance to renew.
They bring me the birds who give up their song,
For such aural and visual splendour I long.

Their worth we don’t realise but have to protect,
Such a true form of sculpture, such a sacred object.
They perform as a forest yet each is unique,
In beauty and bounty their distinction does speak.

The trees are my friends,
Our future, our past,
Pure healing vigour they endure to the last.
They accept me in a sense as one of their own,
Perhaps they are the only true friends I have known.
