This collection of poems is a cultivation of my youth. It circumnavigates a period from the age of 17, lasting about a decade through my twenties. More than anything it is a reflection of these times and an account of growing up in the southern suburbs of Sydney, a world of massive backyards, wooden paling fences and endless shining afternoons spent kicking footballs over the smell of cut grass; a world that is quickly eroding and being ruthlessly engulfed under the pressures of planning and urban consolidation.

It has taken me several years to publish this volume. A long and ever growing time in which the people have changed, the world has changed and what’s more I have changed. I hope the telling of some of these stories will reverberate through the memories of others, to a simpler existence, and one that may be recalled with an air of fondness and fragility.
